How Do Electric Bikes Work? The Technology Behind E-Bikes in Europe
Electric bikes are powered by a motor and a rechargeable battery. In Europe, most e-bikes use either hub motors (located in the wheels) or mid-drive motors (located near the pedals). When you pedal, the motor provides additional power, making it easier to ride, especially uphill or on long-distance rides. European regulations state that e-bikes must have a motor that does not exceed 250W and assist up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph).
